Chinonso Okehie is a Nigerian-American who moved from her native home in Nigeria to the US at the age of 13. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in MD with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Management and went on to obtain her MBA in General Management. While she has built a successful career in investment banking, Chinonso has always had a passion for tea and desired to start a tea company that would give consumers a unique and authentic tea experience.
Black tea with milk and sugar was part of Chinonso daily breakfast routine living in Nigeria. As she grew older, her love for tea did too and at the age of 16, she began to explore different types of tea and the unique qualities that define each tea.
By her mid 20s, Chinonso had amassed a sizable collection of tea from different parts of the world, and in 2017, she embarked on a trip to one of the top tea producing countries, Kenya in quest of what it takes to produce tea. While on a tea farm tour, Chinonso discovered and fell in love with the rich and exotic taste of purple tea, a unique specialty tea only grown in Kenya. She found herself yearning to learn everything about purple tea, from the complex yet natural processing of the tea to its high levels of antioxidants. Chinonso also got to know the small-scale farmers who depend on growing tea as their main source of income.
Chinonso’s discovery opened the gateway to pursue her passion in life. She made a commitment to give both tea enthusiasts and inquisitive newcomers a golden opportunity to experience the goodness of African tea while concurrently supporting and empowering the farmers that make it all possible.
